The planning continues…I got the Evening of Scribing Recklessly (our local version of Night of Writing Dangerously) booked for MoKaBe’s on Nov. 21. So all the big events are booked. Yay!! I’ve been working on items for the goodie bags, and am making progress. I printed out the nametags, and they look great. Then I realized I put a place for “Name” but not “Forum Name.” Luckily the paper was pretty cheap, so it’s not a big deal to buy more and redo them.
Sunday The Other Jen and I are getting together to assemble goodies bags. There is one more thing I want to get done before the pre-kickoff party, but have a week and a half. And if I don’t get it done, it’s not a big deal, so I’m not stressing over it. (Yes, I know that’s vague, but too bad. 🙂 )
The aforementioned “something very exciting in the works” seems to be stalled. Not sure where that stands, which is disappointing. It’s at the point now where I have to decide how much of a pest I want to make of myself, or if I just let it go. We’ll see.
Planning for my novel, however, is not going so well. I don’t want to do a lot of planning, but I’d like to have a few more ideas about what might happen to my characters in the middle sections of the book. But I keep reminding myself I have more of an idea of what will happen than I did for NaNo 2008, so I should let it go. And I will.
I’m also still working sporadically on Ravaged. And by “working sporadically” I mean opening Scrivener, rereading a chapter or 2, changing a few words, adding a paragraph or 2, then going off to surf the NaNo forums. I need to add stuff in the middle, so it’s kind of counterproductive when I immediately go to the last chapter written every time. I should pick a random chapter in the middle, and start reading from there, then change a few words and add a few paragraphs (or scenes) there. So that’s what I’ll do next time I open Scrivener. I’ll force myself to the middle.
I also have a completely different story wanting to be written. Problem is, I don’t know anything about it. I know where it takes place, but that’s it. No who, why, what, how…none of it. Come to think of it, that’s how Divided started off. Maybe I should give this one some thought. I personally know someone who changed their entire idea for their NaNovel 2 days before Nov. 1 once. I’ve read on the forums about people who change the day off, or even a few days into November. It’s doable. But the person I know personally said because of the late change, she didn’t get her research done (it was an historical piece) and now has a lot to fix. This novel will need some research too. Maybe not as much as an historical, so maybe it’s doable. I do know the 2nd disc of The Mothman Prophecies soundtrack is PERFECT music to write this novel too. As is Oneiroid Psychosis, any of the albums. The creepier, the better.
Bottom line, I guess I’ll just see what appears on the screen when I start typing at midnight on Nov. 1. Whatever it is, I know I’ll have fun.
17 days till NaNoWriMo….
