Jen and I had a productive meeting Tuesday night and got a lot planned for NaNoWriMo. Alison graciously books our TGIO party at Houlihan’s for us (thanks Alison!) and suggested Fitz’s as a location for the pre-kickoff party. I called them during a lull in the insanity at work today, and spoke to their very enthusiastic, cheerful manager Jeff. He was interested in the group, said he loves reading and would love to read my book (even though he has no idea what it’s about) and got it all set up.
It had been a rough day, so I was excited I got this booked so easily. Then I had this odd feeling. Did I book the pre-kickoff for NOVEMBER 24??? Crap. So I called back to check, and sure enough, I did. Yikes. That wouldn’t exactly work. He put me on hold so he could go back to the reservation calendar, and we got disconnected, and the insanity of work too over again. Thankfully he called me back a few hours later (during the few minutes during which I was NOT on my motorcycle, and therefore able to answer the phone) and told me he got it fixed, and we’re now booked for OCTOBER 24. What a relief. My mouth is watering just thinking about a root beer shake. Yes, shake. And chili-cheese-dogs. YUM.
I also have a call out about the St. Louis as-yet-unnamed version of the Night of Writing Dangerously. (The officials want us to call our local events something different to avoid confusion, which is perfectly understandable…we just haven’t settled on a name yet.) I’ll call back in a day or 2 if I don’t get a return phone call. Have a little more time to plan that one, so I’m not as worried about it.
The midnight kick-off is also scheduled for Jen’s house, though she’s kicking us out at 2AM. Makes sense, since it’s a worknight and all, but I’m considering trying to locate a 24hour place nearby I (and others if they choose) can migrate to at 2. Maybe. Or I’ll just go home and crash for a few hours before work. Not sure yet.
Now it’s time to work on goodie bags. We’re also going to have a raffle at the pre-kickoff party for Fabulous Prizes. I’m going to design some journals for it (dust off my old Stampin’ Up skills and supplies), have a few gift certificates, and will have to think of a few more items as well.
And it has been decided that I shall wear the Jayne hat at all events to differentiate me from The Other Jen. No complaints here. Yes, I will post pics.
I also created a Facebook group for NaNo St. Louis. You can find it here if you’re a NaNoer and interested in joining. I must admit I had a fangirl squee moment when Laurell K. Hamilton’s husband was one of the first people to join the group. 🙂
I’m so happy today is payday. That means I can A) buy stuff from the NaNo store and B) go shopping for stuff for the goodie bags. I’ve found some truly awesome items we’re going to put in them.
Now, to figure out which NaNo t-shirt I’m going to buy first.
