I just sent the final draft of Divided off for proof reading – just spelling/grammar mostly. Not looking for anymore story editing, unless my editor finds any major plot holes I missed. I’m so excited! Self publishing is really the way to go, in my opinion. In the past when I had a completed manuscript and started querying agents, it wasn’t nearly as exciting because I knew it would likely take ages to find an agent, then ages more for the agent to find a publisher, then even more ages for the publisher to do their thing. But now, it’s all under my control. The only thing stopping this novel from being published is me.
I still have a lot of work ahead of me. I need to format the book for Kindle. From what I hear Scrivener makes that super easy, but I’ve never done it before. Eventually I’ll format it for Nook and iBooks as well, but I’m going to focus on amazon at the start. I also want to make it available in print, so have to research print on demand – POD – companies and decide which to go with. Then there’s the cover to be designed, and finally figuring out how to market the book. And in between all that will be National Novel Writing Month. So it will still be several months before it’s out, but the first step is finished.
I’ll be spending much of the rest of this weekend researching all the above. Marketing is the bit that makes me most nervous, but I’m excited to learn about all the aspects of self publishing and get the experience. I have a wonderful community available to help me at Asymmetrical, so I know the process won’t be too painful.
