Burning Darkness has definitely won out in my mind as the novel I’m going to write this November. It’s just forming too well (in a vague sort of way, if that makes any sense) in my mind, and I know I have to write it. I’m pretty sure if I didn’t, Elena and Crew from the urban fantasy series would all end up in an asylum themselves.
I have 3 chapters left to read in “Danger to Self: On the Front Line with and ER Psychiatrist.” It’s not really what I was expecting or hoping for, though it is very interesting. I’m looking for a book that will give me more of the feel of a psyche ward, and this one hasn’t done that very well, at least not so far. So I moved on to “Danvers State: Memoirs of a Nurse in the Asylum” which only took about 2 hours to read. It was an interesting read, but very disjointed, with poor editing. It gave a very human look into an asylum, something I think will definitely help to have in my mind while I’m writing my story.
I still don’t know my characters, but I’m not worried about it. I’ll let them develop as I write, or maybe I’ll do a little thinking before Nov. 1. I know some of the scenes in the middle, sort of, and have a vague idea how it ends, but mostly I’m not doing any plotting on this. I’m just going to write and let the story evolve on its own.
This does mean my writing playlist needs just a little bit of work. I’m mostly going to listen to my creepy music while writing this novel, with Sinfinis thrown in, of course. So far I have Nox Arcana (though as I’m listening to them more, they’re a little too Halloween-y for my taste…too much organ, I think), Midnight Syndicate, Oneiroid Psychosis, Mothman Prophecies OST, and Silent Hill OST. Really that will be enough since it’s background anyway, and for the especially creepy scenes I’ll probably put Mothman on repeat, but should I stumble across a few more creepy albums before Nov. 1, I won’t be disappointed.
Sunday is the pre-kickoff party. I’m super excited to meet all the new Wrimos this year, and to see those I haven’t seen since last year. I hope everyone likes the goodie bags The Other Jen and I put together. I got the last item I ordered for them yesterday, so will meet up with Jen a little early to toss it in the bags. I also need to make a few more printouts, but that will only take a few minutes, since it’s printing extras of what I already have designed.
The biggest feat will be to see if I can remember to bring my “real” camera with me Sunday. Since the camera on my iPhone 3GS is decent (other than lacking a flash, a serious complaint I have, and no, I’m not going to buy the newest iPhone), I rarely use my “real” camera. But I want to have it Sunday, so I should probably stick it in my purse already so I don’t forget. And I will post pictures, don’t worry.
Surprisingly, I’m not all that nervous about the pre-kickoff party. Aside from the little fear that I still didn’t manage to book the right date, I’m pretty calm about the whole thing. Let’s hope that keeps up.
10 days till NaNoWriMo…
