October really got away from me. Between a slew of pre-NaNo workshops, the kickoff party, dealing with the bathroom remodel (this weekend is devoted to painting since they FINALLY finished…I am not impressed with how long it took) and working a gazillion hours at the day job, I’ve barely had time to plan my novel. Don’t get me wrong, I have much more of a plot than I’ve ever had when sitting down to write a novel before, but the other day I realized my psychological thriller was mostly lacking the “psychological” part, so I need to figure out how to get that bit in there. I have vague ideas floating around my head, but haven’t had time to sit down with my Moleskine and flesh them out.
Maybe tomorrow after the morning painting session and workshop I’ll have some time to plan. Because Sunday I have to work (I know, right?) then another week begins and lately it’s become clear that I can’t absolutely depend on having my evenings to myself. Oh, I’m also trying to catch up on Sons of Anarchy somewhere in all this. I might have Wednesday evening, but that will also have a nap thrown in there to prepare for the midnight kickoff party.
I have gotten some of my pre-Nov. 1 tasks completed. I have a short writing playlist created that is more than just throwing a bunch of complete soundtracks together, though I’d like to find a few more songs to add to it. It’s only an hour long at this point. But it doesn’t include my “creepy music” soundtracks – Mothman Prophecies, Silent Hill, and Oneiroid Psychosis. It also doesn’t include my default writing motivation album, Emilie Autumn’s “Unlaced.” And I went to the grocery store last night to buy more coffee and tea, and microwave meals. And the house is clean. While not plot related, those are very important items to cross off the list.
The final non-plot item is to figure out something to bring to the midnight kickoff party potluck. I’m taking off Nov. 1 and 2, so I should be able to get a really good start the first weekend.
I haven’t had a lot of time to get excited, and I feel like I’ve been slacking a bit in my ML duties (mostly I’ve just been absent from the regional forum), but when I do have a spare moment, I am definitely very excited for another November.
